Initial Complimentary Consultation Stephanie is happy to speak with parents in person at her office or over the phone about their wishes and concerns for their child's reading progress. During this consultation, the parent and clinician can discuss the best course of action for their child.
Comprehensive Reading Assessment (2-3 hour assessment session + parent report) Prior to beginning educational therapy services, Stephanie Courson administers standardized reading assessments to create a comprehensive and in-depth look at a student's current reading functioning so that appropriate programming for reading remediation can be determined. Families receive an in-depth report describing the student's reading abilities, as well as specific goals for remediation. The Comprehensive Reading Assessment is required of all new clients.
Individual Reading Remediation An individualized instruction plan will be created for each child and target their areas of need in reading, writing, and spelling based on assessment results. Students in need of language skills, word reading and spelling skills, and comprehension skills will be provided systematic, language-based, structured, and sequential instruction that matches their particular needs. Parents will receive a written description of clinical tasks completed during each session as well as suggestions for home study. Some of the programs utilized by Stephanie Courson, MA, MEd include Lindamood-Bell LiPS®, Lindamood-Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing®, and the DuBard Association Method®.
Individual Handwriting Remediation Troubles with handwriting can affect a student's entire school day. Common issues seen in handwriting include written letter/number reversals, improper letter formation, pencil grip, and spacing/sizing. Materials and methodology from Handwriting Without Tears® are used to assist with the most common handwriting issues.
During-School Intervention for Independent Schools Services can be provided to students one-on-one during the school day on campus at independent schools. These services are provided using the same tools, materials, and methods used in the office setting and will require coordination with the school for scheduling.
Meeting Attendance Stephanie Courson, MA, MEd will attend meetings with schools and other professionals on behalf of the client in order to collaborate services and advocate for the client's needs if this is requested by the family.
